CactusVPN Now Supports WireGuard!
WireGuard® is becoming really popular, and we believe it will experience mass adoption in the next year or two. So we decided to get a head start on this which is why we added it to our long list of supported protocols.
What Is WireGuard?
You can think of WireGuard as the “youngest” VPN protocol. We heard about it in 2018, and it was developed by Jason Donenfeld (the founder of Edge Security).
WireGuard underwent heavy development, testing, and auditing since it was made public. Nowadays, it’s a capable VPN protocol, and more and more VPN providers are starting to incorporate it into their service.
Why Should You Use WireGuard?
Because it offers the two things most VPN users want – excellent security and smooth speeds.
The protocol is programmed to use modern, state-of-the-art cryptography that should prevent security vulnerabilities caused by misconfigurations.
And since WireGuard has a very lightweight code base (only around 4,000 lines) and uses CPU power more efficiently, it can offer surprisingly fast speeds. Some tests say the slowdown is around 19.1% on average.
So if you always wanted to use a really secure and speedy alternative to OpenVPN, WireGuard is perfect for you.
How to Use WireGuard with CactusVPN
Right now, you can use WireGuard with CactusVPN if you set it up manually. Contrary to popular belief, doing that is pretty simple. Just follow our step-by-step tutorials:
But don’t worry – we’re planning to add built-in support for WireGuard into our apps in the very near future.
