How to set up IKEv2 VPN on Windows 10

In this tutorial we will show you how to set up IKEv2 VPN on Windows 10 but first let’s see what are our requirements and recommendations.

Requirements

In order to set up the IKEv2 VPN you will need:

A CactusVPN account. If you don’t have one you can try our services for free.
Your VPN username, password and VPN server IKEv2 hostname. You can find them in your account on our website, by going to Settings.

Recommendations

To skip the manual setup and for more features we recommend to use the CactusVPN App for Windows.

If you still want to set up IKEv2 VPN manually, go step-by-step through following instructions:

Click on Open Network and Sharing Center (1) from the network icon from the taskbar or click on Network and Sharing center from Control Panel.
Click on Set up a new connection or network (2).
Select Connect to a workplace (3) and click Next (4).
Check the No, create a new connection checkbox (5) and click on Next (6).
Choose Use my Internet Connection (VPN) (7).
In the Internet Address field (8) type the hostname of the CactusVPN VPN server you want to connect to.

You can find IP addresses of all our servers in your account on our website, by going to Settings.

In the Destination name field (7) type the name of your connection, for example Bucharest IKEv2.

Click Create (10).
Click on Change adapter settings (11).
Right–click on the Bucharest IKEv2 connection, and choose Properties (12) from the menu.
Select Security tab (13) and for Type of VPN select IKEv2 (14).
Check the Use Extensibl Authentication Protocol (EAP) checkbox (15) and choose Microsoft: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) (encryption enabled) (16).

Clickn on OK (17).
To connect to VPN, right–click on the “Bucharest IKEv2” connection and click on Connect / Disconnect (18).
Or you can go to Settings -> VPN (19), click on Bucharest IKEv2 connection and click on Connect (20).
In the next fields type your VPN username and password (21).

You can find your VPN username and password in your account on our website, by going to Settings -> VPN Username & Password. Make sure you use your VPN username and password and NOT the website account credentials (What is the difference?).

Click OK (22).
